Monorail Track Lighting

Help with Track Lighting dimming issue, fire hazard?

My monorail track lighting does not turn on immediately when I flip the switch, The lights do turn on after a slight delay, but they will begin dim on their own and eventually go off again after some time (perhaps 20 min ). They will go on again after a while (maybe after it cools down?) This started about two months ago when I replaced two light bulbs. I have taken the bulbs out again, but it does not seem to make a difference. What is causing this, and what can I do?

  1. You need to get an electrician to check it out but it sounds like you have low voltage lights and the transformer is over heating and cutting out.

  2. a similar problem happened to my girlfriends track lights. she had an ikea track light in her room, with bulbs that were painful to remove so she asked me to! so i finaly got them out, and found two replacement bulbs. they were too high wattage though (didnt realize it at the time, turns out you are stuck using ikea light bulbs for it!) so that night the light began dimming and then just turned off! it didnt blow a breaker or anything, i thought maybe her dimmer broke! so i replaced it. still no luck. i took the light down and realized there was a little built in circuit breaker which blew, so i pushed it back in. still wouldnt work though. i assume that when installing the two higher wattage bulbs, i some how damaged the low voltage transformer. so we tossed that light. lol. anyways long story short, get a new light? =P
