Modern Track Lighting Knowledge Base
Where is a good place to get low voltage track lighting fixtures? I just moved into a house that has low voltage track lighting...or at least that's what the guy at Lowe's told me when I showed him one of the lights. I'd like to replace the light fixtures, but Lowe's doesn't carry them. Where is a good place to get these things? I'd like a modern look as opposed to the old can & bulb set up I have.
How do I switch out my three florescent fixtures for something more modern? I have three florescent fixtures in my kitchen. Each of the fixtures contains two bulbs. I would like to replace the fixtures with something more modern. By modern, I mean track lighting, flush lights or something else that I’m not aware of. One of the fixtures doesn't work at all right now, so this fixture will be my test run. How do I get started with replacing these fixtures?
Modern Bedroom Lighting? I'm redoing my room and it's going to be very modern. I was thinking of track lighting but that might be too expensive..and i was also thinking of wall sconces on either side of the bed. I thought of a floor lamp but I feel like they never light up the whole room. What should i do to light the room nicely and also keep it in the modern/contemporary theme? Links would be good too :)
How many track heads (volts/watts) can I put in a 6 foot track? I have four heads in the track now but they are old and dim. I want to replace them with more modern heads but most importantly I want more and better light. It is an Elco track lighting system that is about 5 years old. Track in perfect shape. Thank you for any guidance, suggestions, or ideas!
My apt. has REALLY OLD fixtures (faucet handles, lights, kitchen cupboards, trim) but I have REALLY MODERN...? ...furniture and tastes. How do I make my apt. more modern and sleek and streamlined without changing hardware? I really love the modern/contemporary/sleek look. Think track lighting, geometric couches and chairs, straight lines, simple curves, silver, solid colors, minimal color. My furniture reflects that look. Think black, geometric, glass, brushed metal silver. But the problem is I'm moving into an old, old, old apt whose fixtures can't be replaced, nor do I have the budget to replace them myself even if I wanted to. The ceiling lighting is really old, the faucets are turn knobs, the cupboards have a regular generic wood trim, the bathroom and kitchen floors are tiled with a non-modern look. What are detailed suggestions of how I can reconcile the old look of my apt. with my very modern furniture? I really yearn for a modern, tranquil, minimalist, sleek , clean look...whites, blacks, silvers, neutrals, maybe a splash of color here and there but not a lot. By the way, I'm a guy who's young and recently out of grad school, in case that helps. I like a modern masculine/neutral look, for example, neutral-colored bamboo sticks instead of flowers. Thank you.
What is the best overhead lighting? I'm looking to add ambient overhead lighting in my family room (there's already task lighting in the form of two table lamps). Initially, I was just assuming recessed lighting since that's what's in the rest of my house, but someone recommended track to me because of the flexibility and because installation would be significantly cheaper and less involved. Can track lighting look attractive? The room is fairly traditionally furnished--will such a "modern" look be out of place? Also, I'm looking at this as an investment in the house. If you saw track lighting in a house you were thinking of purchasing, would that be a drawback? Would it be "less good" than recessed? What do you think is the best form of overhead lighting?
Any ideas how to disguise the lights on my ceiling fan? Had victorian shades in living room and I painted three small white hat boxes and gave the fan a more modern look. Now I want to do something with the three brass lights (they look like track lighting) on my ceiling fan in my bedroom. I don't have any ideas. They can't be removed, I just need to cover them with something. I can't find anything online.
So if you had just walked into a bar off the beaten track...? Which style of bar would suddenly like to find yourself in? London style; friendly and homely, offering you a warm welcome and good hospitality. A cosy room with a sing song, a roaring fire and down to earth food Paris style; Romantic and intimate. Good food and wine and offering entertainment which was a little on the saucy side. Italian style; Stylish and flamboyant. Offering well dressed and sophisticated people with low lighting and modern decor Other (insert your own choice here) jims mom, all london bars are now smoke free, and you would be made welcome in all of them Jane Doe Walks,, sounds pretty good to me
What color to paint basement? Main floor is all red/brown/tan hughes it looks VERY nice. I am not too found of pale or light colors but I don't want the downstairs to look too dark or dreary either. Any ideas thats more modern with pops of color? We have darker tan furniture and will try and bring out the colors or tone them down (dpeding upon what we chose) with the storage cubes that come in the chest. This is a 22x12 area room with minimal track lighting. My first thought was tan but I'd like to do something else so our whole house isn't brown or red LOL!
How much would it cost to build a room? I am 14 and for my birthday this year i would like to get a bedroom built in our basement (which is unfurnished) i just hope i wouldnt cost to much, the room would be 12 feet by 12 feet and there would be another room connected to it by an archway, that room would be 8 feet by 8 feet and there would be a 3 feet by 4 feet walk in closet attached to the main room (the 12 by 12 one) the bedroom will not have central air so dont worry about that i would just get a window AC and i would like there to be track lighting in the 8 by 8 room and a spot to insert a ceiling fan in the 12 by 12 room ( i wouldnt need the fan itself because i already have one i would just need the slot to put the fan there) and dont worry about flooring cost i want a modern looking concrete floor :) So please tell m what the cheapest cost would be to build this bedroom thanks :)
Fans of live, modern progressive rock, what do you think of "So Many Roads"? Hi everybody. I haven't asked this for a while because my most recent question was deleted twice (reported by trolls, presumably), so I waited a few days to resume these daily questions, even though I don't get many answers anyway. So, this week's theme (for me in "obsessions") is live prog! I've only uploaded one live album thus far, entitled "So Many Roads". This wondrous album was released by a good, faithful Christian man by the name of Neal Morse. You prog-heads out there will easily recognize the name, as he's been in successful modern progressive bands such as Spock's Beard, Transatlantic, (his own solo career) and has made guest appearances on many bands' albums. If you don't know who he is, he's a multi-instrumentalist (keyboards, piano, guitar, vocalist, etc.) and he's one of the most well-known artists of the modern progressive rock scene. "So Many Roads" was released in 2009, and has a track listing of a mere 13 songs. However, four of those songs are over 30 minutes in length, and from the remaining 9, 4 songs are over 10 minutes. That leaves the album to have only 5 songs less than 10 minutes; in total, the album clocks in at just over 3 and a half hours. One hell of a long album; if you like what I'm showing - get it, you won't be disappointed by it. EXAMPLES! "At the End of the Day" - Neal Morse [Spocks Beard originally] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4iXwhsXVtQ&feature=channel_video_title "Leviathan" - Neal Morse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXepOtE5KMc&feature=channel_video_title "We All Need Some Light" - Neal Morse [Originally by Transatlantic] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLZ2UABH32I&feature=channel_video_title I didn't include any of the 30-minute+ songs, don't worry. If you like the samples here, however, I urge you to check them out at my channel, OneMillionSheep, which you can find by clicking on the corresponding/following link. http://www.youtube.com/user/OneMillionSheep?feature=mhee MQ: Opinion of "So Many Roads", or Neal Morse overall from the above samples or if you've heard his material previously? MQ2: Any comparable artists - to Neal Morse, that is? MQ3: Rate each above song, if you'd like. BQ: What is your favorite live [English] progressive rock album?
Is it possible that a high-tech modern civilization prior to Mesopotamian civilization existed (edited Q)? I don't mean to beat on a dead horse, but I have yet to get an answer regarding my question on the Earth's soil layer history. I've always been amazed with the ancient super structures that have lasted through thousands of years located around the globe, I've always thought that the Earth had gone through a lot of tectonic transformations through the ages that involved earthquakes, tsunamis, global-wide flooding (ala-2012 movie), or even the cataclysmic effects brought on by asteroid collisions with the planet Earth. With Mesopotamian civilization finding root in 3100 BC (according to Wikipedia) and paleontological evidence pointing to prehistoric life that included the observation of primate development, among other organisms evolving through the ages, could there have been civilizations that were peaking/or at their climax in terms of advancement in the sciences/technology between the prehistoric era and the earliest recorded history as represented by Mesopotamia? The thing that really prompted me to ask this question was the idea that the development of modern technology has accelerated exponentially for the past 200 years. Now to think about whatever happened between 10,000 BC and 3,500 BC, that's about 6,500 years. Imagine, 200 years in 6,500 years. If indeed land masses/continents are susceptible to inundations given overwhelmingly powerful tremors (tsunamis) then it might be possible that advanced civilizations prior to Mesopotamia would have been wiped out around the globe at that period. The only evidences left would be the chiseled stones of superstructures, which of course would eventually be weathered away anyway by time, through at least thousands of years. Any form of database of all human knowledge would've have been stored in libraries (paper) or data banks (non-paper techniques), which could have all been wiped out and rendered useless for people looking to recover their lost civilizations. I wouldn't expect any single man or woman to have had a monopoly of all that could have been known/discovered, perhaps only a tinge of this and that, which could have allowed people to start-over with the basics in math, the sciences, technology, etc. This is also the reason why we are extremely amazed with the ingenuity of the ancient civilizations, in the construction of the structures and the technology that we think they had employed then. If paper was even developed to be used as a means to record all the knowledge of ancient inhabitants' modern history then, well we all know paper doesn't last long, especially when wet and worn out through the ages, so there would be barely a trace. To put it figuratively, it was as if the reset button had been pressed on human civilization. Furthermore, explorers of the ancient worlds tampering with these discoveries, assuming there were expeditions through 3,500 to 500 by ancient explorers, them tampering or "handling" evidences wouldn't have helped preserve the relics anyway. Also, if this "fictional" civilizations I had in mind were able to harness electricity and even develop their own information structure similar to the Internet, then obviously traces of the structures and facilities that were built then would be hard to find today if indeed the Earth was flooded or erased by some major catastrophic event to oblivion. Anyway, before the question gets out of hand and sound crazier (I know it already borders on ridiculous) I guess the most realistic question that might serve as the first step for this inquiry of mine is, "Are there pedological data that say otherwise?" and "Based on soil layers, can it be verifiable if the planet Earth had experienced massive flooding/inundations, heating, or any type of forceful deluge during a certain period of its 4.54 billion year history (according to Wiki)?" I am hoping that the age-tracking techniques of the Earth sciences would be able to shed light if indeed there have been delineating/detectable periods of extreme earth conditions. I'm just so curious about the experts' thoughts! Thanks for the patience!

Are chop sticks obsolete in modern times? before anyone says it, i do know how to use chop sticks, it's not rocket science people. anyway, i was noticing that chop sticks require more effort to use than a fork. i know it's tradition to use but when you think about it doesn't it make more sense to use the invention that uses less energy and works just as well or better? isn't that why we use the latest computers? LCD T.V.'s or more efficient cars? and throw away our old light bulbs and cassettes? why haven't chop sticks gone the way of the 8-track decks or pagers? does it look stupid using a fork to eat sashimi?
Is all the meaningful music gone? It irritates me when i hear the lyrics to the metal, punk rock, rap,and hip-hop. Much of today's music is catchy, fun, and quite entertaining but none of it means anything. In the 60's you had motown (songs about love, motivation, hope, and that one girl) and then you had the british invasion. Modern day music really started in the 50's and was fine until once it reached the 80's and then music lost the truly dramatic feelings. Back in the day a bad value track would have been Lighting strikes by lou chirstie where he talks about his incapability to settle down with one woman. Today a bad value piece is A nigga got to get his dick sucked got to get his dick sucked Riding down the strip in the Lexus truck poppin hush -three 6 mafia..... Now u see what i mean. AND what the hell is metal screaming into a mike about death and murder and shit. now look at the beatles, temptations etc
Any Attorneys Interested in a Fat Class-Action Suit? EZPass MD has made it regular practice to charge exhorbitant penalties which are not fair when the system fails. Due to a faulty buzzer & miscommunication from an employee I used my EZpass after the balance had run out. For roughly 12 trips through the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel I was fined a total of $184. I could see a fine of $13 for running the toll without a valid EZpass, but it is near impossible to check your balance since they only mail out a statement once every 2 months. I had to put a checkmark on a sheet of paper in my car to keep track of trips. They flash a yellow light when your balance is low, but modern technology could be more efficient. $184 in penalties is ridiculous. The system is designed to be confusing and to harvest penalty fees. If lawyers can win a suit against Blockbuster for late fee issues this is a ripe apple for the picking. I'm not interested in $$$, I just want to have my account cleared. Let me help you make money! Email me! The counter agent told me if my cash balance ran out I would simply be billed like a credit card. I asked if I could be fined and she said no. She said whatever I owed would simply be billed later. I've since appealed and been denied. They've frozen my account, but keep charging me $25 every two months to replenish my account (which I still use). I can't even access my account to change my address, etc. Freeze my account. Fine, but don't keep adding charges to it without me being able to do anything about it. I could even see if they kept adding late charges, etc., but I can't even log onto my account. I tried to do it at a window and they even said they couldn't access anything until the fine was paid. Again, that is fine, but how can they continue to charge me for their service? What if I had moved out of state or something?
Looking for a possible way to find a lost phone... in a field.? Yesterday at work I had my cell phone in my appropriate cell phone pocket (above my right side pocket) in my shorts. Normally I don't have my phone on me at work but I sometimes stay in touch with the boss, when he's out and I need directions of what to do next. Anyway, he had me pick up branches in the middle of a field to prepare for a farmer to mow the whole lot, and my phone happened to pop out of the pocket and get lost in 2.5' or taller grass. To add insult to injury the phone is on vibrate, and there's only one bar of battery left. I by no means am technologically inept, but I can't seem to find a working GPS tracker. That, or is there also a means of which to remotely access the phone to change the vibrate option to the full volume option? My options currently are: -Buying a metal detector -Waiting till nighttime to call and see the screen light up, granted the thing landed on its back My phone is an LG Tritan, less than a year old. Carrier is US Cellular. According to my grandfather, whom I guess called the place, said they could track a number via GPS to within a mile, but that horrid of precision doesn't add up, as modern GPS can track within a five-meter margin of error. The farmer supposedly comes and goes as he pleases, grabbing a piece of grass to test how dry it is to see if it'll mow. According to my grandfather as well, he can't just call him up, and yesterday was the perfect day to mow. Now it is going to storm, or very soon. I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone had an answer to solve this quagmire! Thank you!
Recurring dream about an elevator? Every once in a while I have this dream where I am in a Large Hotel with a mall and casino inside it. I am usually just walking around by myself, never stopping or looking at anything in particular. This part changes in each dream. I always get on an elevator to go back to my hotel room, when the elevator appears to work as normal rising, not too fast or too slow. But it continues rising as though it will never stop. The elevator is always a light brown interior with standard lighting. I don't panic in this dream, but I do wonder why it hasn't stopped. I don't try to push any buttons, because I know they won't work, its an elevator after all, and they stop on their own. Then suddenly a window appears in the left side of the elevator and I can tell that my particular elevator has left the building and I am flying away from the building inside the elevator. At this point I do get concerned that I might get hit by a passing plane, because I can see clouds. The weather is pleasant, I cannot see the sun, yet it it is sunny and there are a few clouds. The elevator descends to the ground gradually and lets me out as if it were on some track or something. I am still outside, as I step out of the elevator. Each time I have this dream the elevator appears to land in the same area, like a drive up lane for exiting passengers , but that's where the similarity ends. I try to get back to the hotel, but something always happens along the way. One time I got back to the front of the Hotel, but I walked around for while and never made it back to my room. Another time I was back at my old high school walking the empty halls. Another time it was outside a different school with a more modern exterior. Last night I wound up in a parking garage on one of the upper levels. It was dirty and dark, with some lighting. No cars parked up there though. It appeared to be mostly junk. There was someone there, but I never could make out his face or who he was. He got this all-black lawnmower working, and it was running by itself, as if it was remote controlled. The lawnmower had no handle bar on it, but other than that it looked like a regular push mower, although I never got close enough to look at it in detail. I left, unaffected by what I saw and tried to resume my search for my hotel room, but before I could get out of the parking garage, I woke up. I always wake up before I can find my hotel room. After the elevator lets me off, I don't get on an elevator again in the dreams, they are just not around. There are always stairs or ramps, and there is usually a landing or a floor in between the sets the stairs/ramps. Only one of the dreams do I remember actually using the stairs to go down, but in all the dreams where I went a floor up, I acknowledged the stairs/ramps and I must have used them, but I don't remember the act of using them to go up. It's as though I know the stairs are there, I want to use them, then the next thing I know I am stepping off of them or walking away from them on the higher floor.
Can somebody help me condense this letter? I have been set a college assignment: I have to write a letter, fictionally, to the BBC, stating my opinion regarding development in music technology. The thing is, my tutor says it's too long! Help! Here it is... Letter to The BBC Dear Editor I am writing to share my opinions regarding the development of portable music technology throughout the second half of the 20th century, and so far throughout the 21st. It would be of great interest to me, to discover whether any of your other readers share my views. We have, as a nation, witnessed the development of numerous portable audio players, and it seems that each new concept is much more complex than the one before it. It is only when we compare the ideas which were developed in the 1980’s and 1990’s, to the devices which are available in the modern day, that we can truly appreciate the process of utilising new technology to produce devices of a higher sound quality and durability than the devices developed in these earlier times. The personal stereo, which was introduced in 1979, was the first portable audio system available for purchase. The personal stereo enabled an individual to listen to a cassette tape via a pair of headphones. This meant that music could be listened to in a public place, supposedly without disturbing others. (I say supposedly because, should the music be playing at a very high volume through the headphones, complete isolation of the sound would be lost.) The individual could create compilations of cassette tapes to listen to, by recording tracks from a record, or another cassette, according to his own personal preference. The portable cassette player was criticised by some, owing to the fact that it was not compatible with 8-track tapes. However, it was argued that cassette tapes were much more suitable for a device such as this, as they were much smaller and compact. Portable CD players became predominant during the 1990’s. These devices enabled the user to listen to CD’s while on the move. CD’s were preferred by many, as cassette tapes had a tendency to snap, or become otherwise damaged, while they were being transported from place to place. As CD’s are more durable than cassette tapes, the possibility of damage was reduced. However, unlike cassette tapes, CD’s could be easily scratched, which would affect the sound quality of the music. Furthermore, vigorous movement, such as jogging, running for a bus, or even a bumpy car journey, would cause the CD to “jump”- something which would not occur with a cassette tape. For this reason, personal cassette players remained popular during the 1990’s/ Manufacturers offered a solution to the limitations of the CD in the form of the MiniDisc player. This digital device used recordable CD’s and had various advantages to the personal CD player, including the fact that it was more compact, and the user could move around without the sound quality being affected. The Minidisc could not be easily damaged, due to the fact that it was contained in a protective plastic case. Obtaining pre-recorded albums on Minidisc format, however, was very difficult. Therefore, if the user did not own a MiniDics recorder, his choice of music was limited. For this reason, although this format received some interest, it was never very popular. The first Digital Audio Players, also known as DAP’s, became available in 1998. These devices contained a miniature hard-drive in which music tracks could be stored. Solid state storage enables the device to hold much more information than a CD or a cassette, and as a result, the hard drive can store many albums, and sometimes thousands of tracks. These devices are extremely light and durable. They can be transported inside a pocket or the smallest of bags. It is possible for the owner to create playlists according to his own personal preference- not unlike the cassette player, but much more convenient. The shuffle, skip, search and random features of a personal CD player are available on this device, and there are no CD’s or cassettes to become scratched or damage. The main disadvantage of these devices is that, to transfer music to the device, the individual requires access to a computer. Even in these modern times, not everyone owns a computer, and the procedure itself can seem complicated to those who are not confident on a computer. Also, the device runs the risk of becoming damaged by things such as magnets, water, sunlight, etc- just the same as earlier devices. Also, as the device is so small, it is more easily lost than its larger, more prominent ancestors. So there we have it; a brief history in the development of portable audio devices. Every individual has his preference. Personally, I am the proud owner of an Ipod Nano- and a Sony personal cassette player! For this reason, the following comments may seem strange, if not total nonsense. So here goes… Cast your mind back to a

From early caveman dances to African tribal dances to the shamanic ceremonies of Eskimos and Indians, dance music has played a major role in every culture. Today, dance music is bigger than ever. The recent popularity of techno and house closely mimics the 1970s disco explosion. Dance music dominates today's pop charts. Techno, house, and other "rave" styles have changed the face of music today and continue to break new musical ground. The origins of techno are hard to pin down. Many styles have been blended together to create today's distinctive sound. The great funk and soul bands of the '70s have played a large part; Parliament, James Brown, The Gap Band and many others have made an indelible mark on the genre. Seminal electronic bands such as Kraftwerk, Cabaret Voltaire and Tangerine Dream were major influences as well. While the term "techno" is relatively new, the roots of the music firmly lie here. House music's pedigree is more clear-cut. The basic elements of disco (a driving beat and a great vocal), updated with modern instrumentation, form the essence of house. Many house tracks have a strong, uplifting theme, which may help to account for its wide appeal. The positive, anthemic nature of house songs has propelled many of them into the pop charts. Electronic music has been popular since the late '60s, but the techno heard today is unlike anything that has come before. Today, hard electronic sounds from synthesizers and drum machines are often combined with short, sampled vocals and drum loops from old rap or funk records. The resulting songs are fast and hard; the unrelenting beat is the focus. As with most styles of music, splinter genres exist. Techno and house have spawned many; "acid-house," "tribal," "hardcore," "trance," and "progressive" are just some of them. There are huge differences amongst these. Artists like the Orb cover the lighter, more ambient side of techno, while at the other extreme, Acen and The Prodigy offer a harder sound. Snap, Rozalla, and Technotronic are some of the more popular house artists, but the far-reaching influences of house can be heard in many pop songs today. Madonna's "Vogue" is a good example. Raves: A rave is essentially a large dance party, often advertised solely by word of mouth. It may take place in a warehouse or at a secluded park or beach. A great location can contribute a lot to the overall feeling, but a rave can occur anywhere. What separates a rave from a regular dance club is "the vibe." There is an absence of the "singles bar" mentality often found at a dance club. Raves are places where people go to dance -- pure and simple. A large part of the rave experience is based on sensory overload -- a barrage of sounds and visuals are brought together to elevate people into an altered state. Rave lighting may range from a single strobe light to a full blown laser show with computer generated visuals. The DJs play an endless onslaught of music, often manipulating a crowd through the extremes of emotion. The recent explosion of techno and house, raves' music of choice, can be directly attributed to the popularity of raves. Techno and house are young styles. There is much exploration still to be done. New sounds are appearing every day, and new artists are constantly pushing the limits of the genre.
What are all of the accessories I need to go coon hunting? I am going to start coon hunting and don't know a whole lot about it but I know the basics of how to do it. What I want to know is what all do I need to be successful. I know I need a trained dog and I plan on training one from a pup. I also know that i need a 22 to shoot the coon with (which i already have). I am talking about stuff like flashlights, the little flashing beacon to attach to the dog's collar (I don't have the money to spend on a gps tracking system and I don't really want to get too fancy with my hunting. I kinda want to keep it traditional but with some modern items), a powerful light so I can see to shoot the coon and to see far away, clothing, coon squaller, and anything else you guys know of. I know I listed the things I need but I would like to know some brands and approximate cost and maybe a link to a website. Thanks! This is something I have been wanting to do for soooooo many years now. I am really excited! Yup, I always carry my cell phone but I did not know about the one gun thing. Thanks!
Running Shoes: Asics or Pumas? When I went to the store they told us the most modern running shoe was something like an Asics http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/images/as/asics-gel-kayano-14-running-shoe-black-black-lightning.jpg But I just tried on a pair of Puma's I had lying around(something like this shape) http://www.shoespuma.us/images/0711%20white%20blue%20m.JPG and they feel a lot lighter? Which would be better for running short distance(100meter-200meter) track?
What do you think of this passage from my book? This is the first chapter of my book and I just want to see if you guys reading it like it. Please give me any and all advice... Alyssa winced as she was once again smacked across the face. The other kids stared in shock as Alyssa lifted her head and smiled into the woman's face. "Is that all?" she asked. Alyssa knew her face was red from the last 14 slaps, and it took all her will power not to wince. "All I can do," the woman hissed. She slapped Alyssa's face one last time, then turned and left the room. Alyssa took a deep breath and walked back to her seat. "That wasn't smart to backtalk her like that," Karry said. Karry was Alyssa's best friend and most of the time, her voice of reason. "It wasn't smart of her to treat me like that," Alyssa answered. "She can do a lot more to you than you can to her," Karry whispered frantically. Alyssa smiled wistfully at her. "Like what? Expel me? When I find my did I-" "Alyssa, you might never find your dad! With all this fighting going on, he could be de... you never know. My mom never found her dad-" "Because he died before she was born! My dad is still alive!" "Alyssa, you're my best friend, and I'll always love and support you no matter what, but we have to look at this reasonably..." "Karry, I was born during an attack on April Fools Day! I should have been killed and my existence is a joke. You want to know what the last thing my dad said to mom before he left and she died? He TOLD HER A JOKE! I can't take anything seriously!" "You should. Your Aunt is going to be really upset is your suspended again." "Doesn't matter," Alyssa said, waving her hand absentmindedly. She didn't care what that woman thought, Jenna wasn't even her Aunt! Pssh. More like her personal hell raiser. "Aly! One more suspension and you'll be expelled! Then what will you do?" Karry, like the sweet 16 year old that she was, constantly worried about other people. "Well, my Aunt will probably shoot me, but I can dodge a few bullets on my way to the Academy." The Academy was a place that Alyssa had dreamt of going her entire life. It was where anybody will all the finished requirements could join any part of the military. If Alyssa went to the Academy, she could join the Location Squad and finally find her Father! "Alyssa, getting to the Academy is hard enough, but meeting all the requirements-" "Karry, the Academy is the ticket to getting out of here and finding my dad! Besides, I can pass those requirements in a minute. And the journey to get there? EASY!" Alyssa smirked at Karry and bent over her work. Karry reached over and touched Alyssa's shoulder. "Alyssa, I just don't want you to get hurt." "I've been hurt so many times in my life that it wouldn't even matter," Alyssa said quietly, almost to herself. "It would matter to me." "I-" "Alyssa Simmons," said a voice from the back of the room. "Here," she said. Alyssa stood to face the adult as was custom. "Come with me," she commanded. Alyssa straightened her uniform light green skirt and followed her from the room. The uniforms at Hampton High School were very modern. Hampton High, being the best High school in the country, worked very hard making their students the smartest. A discovery had come out in 2012 that wearing light green skirts and light pink helped children retain the knowledge quicker and more fully. So far, in 2062, it worked. "This way," the adult said. "In," she commanded. "Alyssa, didn't I see you yesterday?" asked the Principal. "I don't know," Alyssa said absentmindedly while taking a seat in the big red chair. "I don't keep track of my previous apointments." "No?" "No." "It looks to me as if you've graduated from pranks to backtalking. I'd say I'm surprised, but I'm really not." The principal pushed a few papers arund on his desk, then leaned forward on his elbows. "You do realize that two more suspensions and yu'll be expelled?" "Yes, I know." "Do you not care?" Alyssa thought about that for a moment. She really didn't, but like she'd tell the principal that. "I care," Alyssa said as she straightened her back. "Not enough. Since I care about your future, I'm not oging to give you a suspension." "Gee, thanks," Alyssa muttered. "YOu should be greatful. Your Aunt is not a patient woman." Alyssa nodded, again with the false Aunt crap. "I am grateful," Alyssa sighed. She rubbed her fingers over the small scar on her leg that she had recieved yesterday. "I am going to ask you to watch you
Constructive criticism for the prologue of my story? Winter air chilled the lungs of many. Phantom tendrils of ice wrapped around trees, freezing their bare branches and enveloping them in a cold embrace. Amongst the icy undergrowth walked a woman, holding a pair of skis under one arm and a spear balanced in the crook of the other. She had long, silvery hair, even though she had a young face and bright blue, alert eyes. Another man met her. He was hunched over with two ravens perched on each of his shoulders. He wore a trench coat and a trilby hat which covered one of his eyes, shrouding half of his wrinkled but wise face in darkness. He used a wooden staff to support himself as he trudged through the thick white blanket, over to the young woman. “You shouldn’t be here,” she hissed, suddenly turning hostile. Her eyes looked dangerous, narrowed furiously at the old codger. “It’s dangerous, and it’s my job.” “It’s you who shouldn’t be here,” the old man grumbled. “I can look after myself. You should be keeping a watch on the Trickster... oh, no, wait, that’s right. He escaped.” “It’s not my fault,” the woman complained, “he’s too clever for his own good. He tricked me!” “He tricks everyone. You should know that by now. His name is the Trickster for a reason.” She made a noise like a feral animal – a growl, of some sort. “Like I said, he’s clever. He finds new ways.” “And at this rate, he’ll find a way to take revenge. Track him down, Skadi. You’re the Huntress. You can’t let him get away!” the old man shook his staff at her for emphasis. She sighed, exasperated. “It’s not that easy,” she said, “he’s the Trickster, for gods’ sake. He can be anything and anywhere.” But now the old man wasn’t listening. He was staring at one of the frozen trees – or rather, a shadow that had tried to conceal itself behind it. “Over there,” he murmured, his breath dissipating in small clouds. He pointed with his staff at the intruder. Skadi whipped round and abruptly, her clothes shimmered and changed form. Instead of the modern ski jacket and studded boots she wore before, she was now clothed in a light blue cloak that billow out around her majestically. A furry hood was pulled up over her white hair, and symbols crackled with light in the air around her as an icy-coloured aura. She had her spear, now twice the length it was before, aimed at the shadow behind the tree. “Come out, Trickster,” she threatened, “or we’ll do this the hard way.” The old man had changed as well. The ravens on his shoulders were now flying and cawing around him, as his trench coat changed into a rich, red robe and the hat changed into a horned helmet. An eye patch adorned his eye. In his hands, the wooden staff had become a spear like Skadi’s, with the word ‘Gungnir’ carved into the side of it. Symbols buzzed around him too, but they were different and were golden instead of blue. Skadi saw his new form. “Odin, you can’t risk using your true Aspect,” she warned him, “what happens if you run out of runes?” Odin ignored her, staying focused on the shadow. “Loki, if that’s you, come out now and we’ll make your punishment... more endurable.” There was no reply. Skadi sighed, but had a wild grin plastered over her face, as if she had been looking forward to this moment. “Looks like it’s going to be the hard way, then,” she said, and threw the spear, impaling the shadow to the snow coloured floor. As the doomed person was flung back into the snow, its angular features became clear. Wide, shocked green eyes. Choppy auburn hair splayed out, pale limbs landing awkwardly like a broken doll, with the spear protruding from its stomach. Crimson spread out and tainted the snow pink as the body laid there, snowflakes settling on its colourless face. Skadi walked over to it, as did Odin, examining the features before backing away slightly in surprise and horror. “That isn’t Loki,” Odin muttered, “that’s... that’s...” He trailed off, and suddenly everything went black. I sat bolt upright in my bed, awakening from the dream – or, rather, nightmare. I scanned over my surroundings, making sure I was still in my familiar bedroom. When I had made sure I was I let out a sigh of relief. But my relief was short lived, as I thought about what had happened in my nightmare. “Me,” I whispered, hugging my knees to my chest, completing the old man’s sentence for myself, “that was me.”
Help on a song....what's the title and artist??? Hello, I'm trying to find an mp3 for an older song that dates around 1988-1994... Yeah, that's a large window. Please help me determine who the artist is and the title of the song. Here are my clues: 1. They have a thrashier sound and the vocalist's lyrics sound a lot like early metallica, but this is not a metal band, they would have been popular in modern/alternative rock stations. 2. It's a fairly angsty song. 3. The song lyrics begin with lyrics that go: "You don't know a thing about me. Is there something that you should know?....: The guitars are very catch and it's thrashy sound song. I want to say this is a California band, but I'm not sure. 4. If I remember, their lyrics were fairly political. The opening track on the album with this song is very good and even reminds me of Husker Du with that aggressive alternative punk/"light" hard core sound. 5. I think bd. name is 1 word begining with letter "A" and is 3 or 4 syllables long (I think).plzhlpthx I think the band name might be two rebellious or angsty words like "systematic death" or "destructive hypocrisy" or something weird like that.... That's right! It was "Face to Face".....
With all these great things. What was so bad about the Nazi's? Statements on the Internet on what the Nazis invented/ contributed to the modern world Volkswagen KdF computer, invented by Konrad Zuse 1941. Jet plane in 1939 by Heinkel Flugzeugwerke. The first manned rocket flight in 1945 (unfortunately it lasted only some seconds and pilot Lothar Sieber died) Nazi doctors, in line with their campaign for public health were the first to write a major scientific paper linking smoking with lung cancer, I believe smoking was even banned, for a brief time in the Luftwaffee. Nazis invented Nerve gasses Sarin and Tabun. Invented first effective automatic rifle, single person anti-tank weapons (precursors to RPGs). You can see some magnificant architecture by Speer that was planned in nearly any documentary on the man. Autobahns Stealth technolgy was invented by the Horten brothers during the Reich. Audio technology using magnetic tape was a Third Reich invention. Copying German tape recorders was how the famous American corporation Ampex got its start. Magnetic tape was also essential later for the video tape recorder. Allies hadn't a clue how the Axis was transmitting speeches and programs hours apart to different locations and having them sound "live." It was top of the list of technologies to capture as the war concluded. Management systems for keeping massive and complex development programs on track was another "invention" transferred to the US, along with its scientists and project managers. These systems allowed the Germans to have developments underway in numerous categories and perform them remarkably well. The Wankel engine, which is now referred to as the "rotary engine" was invented during the Third Reich. Mazda uses this engine extensively. Someone mentioned the Autobahnen as really an idea thought up during the Weimar Republic. Yes, but that brings to light another achievement, and that is simply the will and energy to put unemployed workers to work doing things that needed to be done, something the Weimar government was totally inept at doing. "Parliamentary chaos" combined with acquiescence to WWI reparations were the problems. Missile technology: Ground-to-ground, air-to-air, air-to-ground, ground-to-air, ship-to-ship, etc., using wire guidance, TV guidance, IR guidance (everything but laser quidance). Most of these missiles were not at the highest form of development, but their work launched and made a bundle of money later on for corporations like Boeing, Raytheon, Hughes Aircraft, North American Aviation (Rocketdyne Div.), etc. All of these companies had their German "Chief Scientist" heading up research and development operations. The promising IR technologies were mostly all developed during the Third Reich. They had "night vision" devices while the Allies were still wondering if such things were possible. Modern sewer treatment facilities are all derived from Third Reich technology. You've probably seen them with their settling ponds and huge skimmers. While the Englishman, Farnsworth, gets credit for the invention of a very rudimentary television, it was the Third Reich that perfected television and conducted the first broadcasting. Application of geophones for seismic wave detection was used for locating artillary. The "wishbone cannon" was invented and installed at Calais, France. It was destroyed before it was operable. The "rail gun" was another significant invention, which the US and SU copied. This weapon employes a series of ring magnets to propell a rail mounted projectile. The significant feature of this "gun" is that it can accelerate the projectile at a speed nearing infinity -- at least in theory. Conventional explosives are limited by their individual, finite rates of expansion and hence constrained in how fast they can make a projectile move. The intial "invention" of the Third Reich that made everything possible was the breaking away from the international banking system, which made its money on debt finance; i.e., usury. This act was probably the most important event which caused WWII to later occur. In the Thirties the German economy was booming and all sorts of new humane benefits were granted to workers. Elsewhere, deep economic depression was underway, and Roosevelt, for instance, really couldn't get things to moving until we went into a war economy mode. In all, 300,000 patents and copyrights were expropriated from Germany by the Allies after 1945.
