Automotive led light? I want to make a custom led taillight by drilling a series of holes in my baked apart taillight. How would I connect the multiple led. Would I solder all the positives into one wire and the neg into one wire then tap into my stock harness ?
Is it possible to use an amplifier for lighting (automotive) ? For example, I would use an amplifier somehow to help power led lights on the inside of my car, OR, would I just hardwire it straight to the battery?
LED lighting - making the lights brighter.? to give just the bullet points: i just purchased an underbody automotive LED kit. http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geu7oIhRpI1HkBKClXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTEzM2F1cDhlBHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMgRjb2xvA2FjMgR2dGlkA1BSMDI2Xzcy/SIG=12qd0dooo/EXP=1209783944/**http%3a//www.ledunderbody.com/index.asp%3fPageAction=VIEWPROD%26ProdID=5 I am going to use the lights as accent lighting for my room instead of on a car. I have an AC electrical plug I connected to the lights rated at 12Volts 200ma. It seems to light them ok. My two questions with this are: 1: will this be a good way to light these lights? 2: if i use a 15volt plug will it cause them to shine brighter without risking damage or fire? thank you for your help.
Can I wire several feet of EL wire into an automotive LED circuit? Seems my car's interior lights, power window, locks, etc. switches are most likely factory LEDs, and probably the smallest kind literally about 2mm across. I intend to add a few feet of 1.2mm EL wire to each door and wire it and it's small inverter into the factory circuit. Surely this wouldn't overload the circuit would it? I mean with everything together, it can't pull more than 1 ampere right?
Are there any LED lights for a 9400 standard series automotive headlamp? I just bought some halogen light bulbs from SYLVANIA (XTravision 9400). But, last year, my buddy Robin and I where experimenting, testing and tinkering around (via our EVCO (http://www.evco.ca)) with some ultra-bright LEDs. This one light, which drew maybe 40 or 50 watts, had about 20 or 30 ultra-small white LEDs and completely light up his apartment room as though we had a 150 - 200 Watt incandescent (regular) light bulb. It was blindingly bright! I was wondering if there are any commercially available LED lights for a 9400 standard series automotive headlamp?
Trying to find a 1984 KMart Commercial featuring a red Mustang Convertible in Automotive aisles? It had the Knight Riders LED lighting in the grill and it featured KMarts new expanded Automotive Section.
Can LED strips be use In Automotive Application? For Example, If i were to connect them to my Brake Lights, Will it react when i step on the brake? or will they simply blow out because of it? if their is any diagram i can look at how to connect them properly, please leave me a link! Thanks!
Has anyone else bought pilot 7 color led dome lights? I bought some new dome lights from autozone for my jeep grand cherokee. I wanted blue. So i bought the ones that say "7 color" since they were out of the actual blue ones. i plug these lights in and they are red. Does anyone have any idea how you change the color? Here is the link to them, it even says "Color: 7 color." I asked the sales rep but it figures they had no idea at all and werent any help. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/catalog/accessories/accProductDetails.jsp;jsessionid=461BDBBF51353466E5D2580CB285B505.diyprod4-b2c7?counter=3&categoryDisplayName=Electrical+and+Lighting&fromString=search&itemIdentifier=480754_0_0_&productId=480754&sortType=&parentId=367-10&filterByKeyWord=Pilot+Automotive&categoryNValue=100367&navValue=100453&fromWhere=Brand&itemId=453-10&displayName=7+Color+LED+Indicator+Lamp&store=697&skuDisplayName=7+Color
Is there a way to make no current flow in a circuit until it reaches say 10 volts and then open up? its in an automotive system. on some led lights that i want to use for brake lights. bt my problem is them work on such a low power source they stay on all the time.
What do you think of this prospective business name? I am planning on starting up an ebay business. I have been thinking of names and I think I came up with one. First of all I will be selling LED lighting products and all kinds of electrical connectors used in automotive electronics and wiring (custom car stuff basically). What do you think of the name: Nite-Lights or maybe Nite-Lights Electrical
How can I hook up LED interior lights to a ciggarette lighter in my car? Ive been looking around at various LED lights and found these. http://www.amazon.com/Multi-Color-Color-Interior-Underdash-Lighting/dp/B000I04Z7Q/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1253750015&sr=8-3 I really dont know much about car wiring and the directions listed for the product on a different site are rather vague. http://www.ledunderbody.com/instructions/interior4x9.pdf Ive got a 2006 Cobalt and was wondering if I could buy some type of ciggarette lighter adapter which I could connect the wires too for an easy connection. Im just not really sure what type of product I should be looking for or if something exists. Let me know some suggestions. Thanks
How do I install a LED tube light in my Jeep? I recently got a LED tube light from Pilot Automotive and seeing as this is the first time I'll be installing one help would be greatly appreciated. Ok heres the deal, the light has two wires running through it a black one and a white and black striped one, now the instructions say to connect the black wire to the chassis ground (im guessing any part of the body, but I may be wrong), and connect the striped wire to a switched power source (parking light, tail light, etc.) only problem with that is I want it in the jeep not outside so I have no idea where to connect that at all (detail of exactly where this wire would go would again be greatly appreciated). Also just for the record I know its illegal to drive with interior lights on, I just want to have it working, it doesn't mean im going to drive with it on.
How to alternate LED strips on and off? This is what I want to do, just remember that this will be for automotive use (non ricer haha). I have two led strips. One white and one red. I want to have one of them on and one off. When a voltage, coming from another source, comes in I want it to turn of the lit one and light up the second strip. Is there like a relay or something that will allow me to do this? Thanks in advance
Automotive Flasher/Hazard Light Hookup...? I am hooking up some hazard lights to my tractor and have never done it before. I am wondering if this: http://www.princessauto.com/trailer/truck/truck-accessories/truck-electrical/8172710-12v-dc-2-to-6-bulb/circuit-flasher will work with this. http://www.princessauto.com/trailer/trailer/trailer/trailer-electrical/8126047-4-led-stop/turn/tail-light -Can you hook more than one light up to a flasher unit? -Will this type of flasher unit work with LED lights? -How do you hook the lights up so they don't drain the battery when the tractor is off? Any tips, links to wiring diagrams, advice, or help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.
Wonder what might be the component for LED Protector? http://superlumination.com/images/auto_bulbs/protector_wm.jpg Seem to be universal for automotive 12V use. Mainly for protecting your aftermarket LED light from burning out. I'm guessing a resistor. If so, what ohm would be appropriate. (see linked jpg) LED protector in the picture is probably use for preventing the surge of Voltage. I want to maintain the voltage for the LED light at around 12v and the vehicle voltage varies by probably varies between 12.5v and 13.5v. Would using a Resistor for 1v drop be too much? I trying to prolong the life of the LED and consume the least watts. I've decided with 0.5 volt drop at 100 mA on 12V circuit. I'll probably use a 10 Ohm carbon film resistor with 1/4 w rating since I can't find 5 Ohm resistors. I'm was wondering if I should use a resistor with 1/2 w rating instead. Forward current is150mA and 12 v drop. I just want to add a component, possibly a resistor, to prevent possible damage to the LED Light that I purchased. It works currently. I saw that website sell the "LED protector" and wonder what part or component they use and it sells for $1.99. Shipping is $4.00. I would rather make it myself so I don't have to pay for the expensive shipping cost.
how do you hook up led lights to a moped? I just bought a moped and i want to hook LED lights up to it. I found these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002SGBBUW/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&psc=1 on amazon.com and i was wonder how to hook them up if i bought them, would i have to buy something seperate to hook them up or could i just connect them to the battery or headlights (so I've read). links to how-to-videos are gladly accepted as well. Thank you.
Can I change a LED illuminated switch to light when in the off position instead of the on position (default)? I have an automotive blue LED rocker switch that illuminates when in the "on" position. However, I would like for it to illuminate when in the "off" position, and not illuminate when in the "on" position. (Exactly the opposite of what it does now). Is it possible to change the wiring in either the switch or something else in my system to make this possible? Looking at the switch, it doesn't look that easy to take apart.. Just FYI it is part 84841 at Oreilly Auto Parts, Dorman "Blue LED Rocker", 30 AMPS. Thanks
Converting a 12 volt dc device to 110 home current? I have been trying to come up with an economical way to provide LED moon light to my aquariums. I just happened to run across some reasonably priced LED strips. But they are set up for automotive use and a 12 volt dc power supply. What I am wanting to know is, is there a way I can use the lights with standard home current?
Which 9400 series automotive lightbulbs have the the best lux or lumens? I just bought Sylvania light bulb. But before opening the package I was wondering... What is the lux or lumens for a standard automotive 9004 headlamp. What is for : - Sylvania Standard (~3100K) - Sylvania Xtravision, 12.8V, 65/45W (~3200K) - Sylvania Cool Blue (~3500K) - Sylvania Silverstar (~4000K) - Sylvania Ultra (~4100K) What is the lux (of luminous flux) for Xenon lights? (I found this website that says 12000K is about 3 times brighter then the average halogen light) (http://www.xenonhidworlds.com/). This other website here, http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic62105.htm, talks different lighting. Alas, I'm to tired to continue searching and maybe even reading through some patents. In short, what automotive 9400 series headlamp light, according to you, has the best luminosity? Which one is the most affordable? Which one will or should last the longest? Bonus question : Do LED headlamps exist for 9400 series headlamps? I'm looking to compare the information of LEDs vs. halogen lights. (ie.: This link here http://www.ledlight.com/1156-1157-automotive-led-lights.aspx gives us some details about the amount of lumen an LED can produce. Furthermore, I have another question regarding automotive application with the 9400 series bulbs.
Could I use a red led strip as a third brake light? http://www.amazon.com/MOTORCYCLE-LIGHT-BRIGHT-ACCENT-FLEXIBLE/dp/B002H876FA/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1291576109&sr=1-1 Would this work as a third brake light for my 95 pickup truck? I want to place it right below the rear cab window and stuff the wiring in the 2cm airspace between the bed and the cab. What do you guys think?
are this license plate lights illegal? i wanted to use this lights i want to know if they are illegal in irving tx and dallas tx i dnt know why but in the dark if you take a picture they look blue and the light hits the ground is that why they could be illegal? also they are very bright. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/Pilot-Automotive-White-license-plate-LED-light/_/N-25pw?itemIdentifier=873393&_requestid=1769600
Thoughts on blue LED dome lights? Are they actually cool or are they just annoying? http://www.amazon.com/Exclude-318ti-interior-light-upgrade/dp/B000LOP7KI/ref=sr_1_120?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1233194056&sr=1-120
These CCFL halo LED headlights Illegal? I want to buy some Halo CCFL lights for my 2002 camaro. It comes with LED bulbs and has a faint blue color I can't really tell. Here is the section in our nevada automotive law. NRS 484.491 Fusee: Limitation on color. No fusee which produces other than red light shall be placed on the highway to warn of any stalled vehicle or other hazard to traffic. (Added to NRS by 1963, 1268)—(Substituted in revision for NRS 484.717) NRS 484.493 Police officer to remove lights and sirens unlawfully installed or operated. A police officer shall remove and destroy, or cause to be removed and destroyed, all red, blue or amber lights and all sirens unlawfully installed or operated. (Added to NRS by 1963, 1266; A 1985, 1041) Here is a link to the ebay page I saw it on: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1998-2001-2002-CAMARO-CCFL-PROJECTOR-HEADLIGHTS-6P-BLK_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4838b083acQQitemZ310188737452QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_4997wt_1165 I can't tell if its really blue or the camera's just stupid. I want them so bad. It's just like the BMW lights right? I want to know before its too late. Thanks
Installing LED strips today, can someone help with making control box? I purchased two led strips that are already suited to run off of automotive power, but I didn't buy the control box (so that I could have an excuse to learn a little as I do this project). So I'm making the control box today (unless I have to order in parts) and have most of it worked out, but I want to add a dimmer to it. The power runs into the box and then splits and runs to each strip (I left out explaining the other settings I have built into the box). How would I add a way to adjust the brightness of the lights? I thought about using a pot but didnt want to decrease my led life by giving it too much current at times. I guess the only other option is PWM. How would I add that into my circuit and give myself a way to adjust it on the fly? Thanks! -Matt
Problems running an automotive relay with a low milliamp signal? I have a water temp gage that has an external warning light output. it is normally supposed to be hooked to a small LED but I thought I could run a relay with it and run whatever I want off it. Measuring voltage at the output is 12 volts with nothing attached but only 2-3 volts with the LED attached. This will not run the relay. My assumption is that the milliamps required to run the relays are too high causing the voltage to drop to much to run the relay. Is there a way to fix this so I can run the automotive relay? The only other issue is that the led is powered by a ground signal, not a positive. So I need to switch the transistor with ground...
installed led signal bulbs, instantly burning fuses!? I got some 3157 leds from ebay, swapped out my halogens and im just waiting for my resistors to come in now to fix the quick blinking. or so i thought the lights wont work, as soon as i plug them in the socket and hit the flashers or signal it instantly fries my turn signal fuse. i put in a new fuse and tried again to make sure it wasnt a bad flasher and it happens over and over. I thought that led signals just pull less current (making the flash quicker as it thinks it has a burnt out halogen) therefore it should never even get near the 15amp fuse threshold? i have an automotive background so any real help would be appreciated because im lost here no i got them because i didnt want the flasher to go fast. you dont need them.
Wiring Question for 12V accessories? (Not technically an audio question, but there's no category for misc. automotive electronics) I'm putting some interior neon LED lights in my 2006 Taurus SEL and I have a couple questions. The lights I purchased either have spade connectors or just end in bare wires, hard to tell from the picture. Either way, doesn't really matter. I also stopped at autozone and picked up a 4-socket switch box that I'll mount in easy reach somewhere in the center console and plug into the 12v power outlet. I plan to connect the lights to this switch box for easy manual on/off toggling. My question is how do I go about connecting bare wire to a 12v barrel socket? Can I just cut the wire of an old accessory with the 12v plug on the end and attach the light wires to that so I can plug it in, or should i just somehow attach the wires to the wall and base of the socket?

Bought some lights from autozone. Dont understand!!!? I bought some new dome lights from autozone for my jeep grand cherokee. I wanted blue. 03 toyota camry dome light question? i just recently bought this: http://www.amazon.com/TOYOTA-Intensity-Bright-interior-upgrade/dp/B000LLG3K4/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1259296391&sr=1-7 and when i was about to install it, the original bulb looks bigger. i didnt take it out yet because i was just comparing the sizes before incase it doesnt fit. so i compared it and it doesnt fit. but the model number for 03 camry is correct for this bulb but i dont know why it's not right. here are the model numbers for the camry: http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProducts/AutomotiveLighting/LampReplacementGuide/AutoLRG-Results.htm this website says that the required bulb is DE3175 and that is what the blue LED dome light is.
electrical problems.. plz help me save money on this simple but dangerous problem? i need help with my truck. i have a 99 dodge dakota v8 2wd with around 162,000 and let me tell you its nice and runs beautifully and really fast.i have had electrical problems with it in the past but it because of manufacture defects that all of the same make and year have after a number of miles but the problem im having with the truck is that every time i hit the brake my driving lights turn on and when 0i turn on my driving lights my 3rd brake light turns on. i have asked shops that deal with automotive electric but they will charge me $100 just to look at it and that's not including labor or parts. i don't know why its doing this i have replace my taillights and 3rd/cargo lights with LED with resistors. and replace my headlights and fog lights with 12k 35w hid's and my inside lights also with LED so in other words my trucks uses 3/5 less power which includes my sound system. and all this problems started to happen before we started getting snow, so its been sitting in the back yard for almost half a year.... plz help i would like to start taking out my truck before gas becomes more expensive then what it is. i have already checked all the connections i have made cut them re-strip them plus i even shrink wrapped the connection i taped to avoid any unwanted disconnection and still.

2011 Tundra Question? I tried replacing the stock interior lights with LED's I bought and i looked all over the internet and read that you have to take off some screws and a metal piece yadayadayada. Well i saw a youtube video where they replaced the bulbs by taking them out with screwdrivers and i thought that would be the easiest approach. I did it and the first one was successful but the second one got a little tricky and as i put the flat screwdriver in, like and electrical shock flickered and the lights don't want to turn on anymore. I need help on how to fix this or if i can go anywhere in my hometown with some type of automotive electrician to find what the problem is and if it can be fixed. Any help is greatly appreciated.
