Led Track Lighting Knowledge Base

Which uses less energy? A LED track lighting fixture or a fluorescent lighting fixture? In replacing my lighting fixture, I'm trying to figure out which might be more energy efficient. Would it be, an LED track lighting fixture with four 50W bulbs, or a square fluorescent lighting fixture with two 40W tubes?
LED Commerical Lighting for small business on a budget? Opening a furniture store and design studio. Would like track lighting and recessed lights. Space is rented so want to keep budget low, but also keep electric bill low. Understand LED is energy efficient etc., but I am working with a small budget. If conventional fixtures have to do, are there any special bulbs that won't emit as much heat. Thanks
Track Lighting: Poor design...horrible installation issues....? I recently purchased track lighting from Lowes. It was a nice, moderately expensive system with LED lights.... The problem came when installing it. After completing the wiring, it was next to impossible to bolt the system to the ceiling. The mount was fine and adjustable but the plate covering the wiring attached to the lights completely obscured the access to two screw holes needed to secure the light to the ceiling. Has anyone else come across a poorly designed light like this that makes it next to impossible to install without pulling a McGuyver? **Nope..the cover does not snap into place...that make too much sense. Like I said it's a poor design.
How can I track LED's with my computer? Hopefully I can explain this right. I'm building several individual circuits, all of which are basically a switch that turns an LED on and off. I want to be able to track which lights are on and which are off in real time with my computer. I’d like to be able to use that information in a program that would operate in conjunction to the LED's. I don’t really need to send information from the computer, I just want the computer to be able to see what's going on with the circuits (basically, just if the LED is on or off). Any suggestions?
Why do track light systems have minimum load requirements. What creates minimum load requirements in a circuit? I bought a 12volt LED light unit to replace an incandescent. I want to plug it directly to a 12 volt battery. I don't want to burn it out. It says "Use only on multi-track systems or outdoor landscaping systems meeting minimum load requirements" I know that it cannot harm the battery. I'm only concerned about getting the best performance from the LED. Something tells me that TexasMaverick doesn't have a degree in electronics. Tinkertailorcandlestickmaker: The original question was and remains a two part question. There are no rules about having two part questions on Yahoo answers. The follow up question and the "Additional Details" that followed were added to specify that the query was about electric current. None of these answers are useful or even informative. The fact that two so called "Top Contributors" failed to answer a question that should be easy for an electrician to handle reflects sadly on the quality of information shared on this site.
My dash board lighting and radio LED's fade while im driving... Someone explain a solution? I have a 2000 GMC Sonoma and I was on the highway when i noticed i couldn't read any of my gauges and my radio wasn't displaying the time or track number but the radio was still playing. anyone know what the problem is?
Updating an old business sign from around 1970, and looking at going green! Need help!? I have come under ownership of a restaurant, which has an old sign from the 70's, with a 'lightbulb track' that makes it look like the lights chase each other around the sign. It has broken down, and the electrician stated they no longer make parts to replace. Was wondering if anyone had any ideas (green is a plus) to update this sign! LED track light, whats needed.. any website... help would be appreciated! Thanks.
Battery Chargers... Do they really work? My family and I are getting ready to move. We are paying an extra $50 in rent (not worth it if you ask me, but desperate times...) Anyway, so I'm looking for conservative ways to save money. I'm chopping my phone bill in half by eliminating online access :-((((((, clipping coupons *horray*, opting for a very standard cable bill ($12 mo, no premium) as well as other little things. One of my ideas was to use led track lighting throughout the apartment. However, batteries are expensive so I dont want to look dumb spending loads of $ on them that will add up to or more than a conservative electric bill. However, if a standard AA, AAA battery charger works, then what a great idea, right? I think my boyfriend will love it, I make a little more than he does so the chunk outta my check doesnt seem as harsh on me as it does him. Please include any other "frugal" ideas you may have and PLEASE let me know if there is a battery charger out there that can handle this job that will save us some $$$$$$. Thanks everyone!
Are there any Cheaper brands of moonlight lighting for a 24 inch aquarium? I want the r2 moonlight but it is $50 for a 24 inch! Is there a moonlight light that is les then the R2, but still produces the same effect? Please help and best answer will get 10 points! Just to make sure we are all on the same track, it is the LED light that gives off a moonlight blue effect on your tank at night time. So you can see the fish that Are nocturnal. But doesn't disturb the fish that need to sleep.
Why are my LED replacements bulbs buzzing? We have flood lighting using halogen bulbs above the counter in our kitchen, and I also just got track lighting with MR16 lights installed in my office. When I replaced the halogen bulbs in the kitchen with LED's, I heard a loud buzzing. The lights are on a dimmer, but even at full power the buzzing persists. I swapped the LED's for fluorescents and got the same issue. The halogens don't buzz at all. The same exact thing happened with my track lighting. The MR16 halogens that it came with don't buzz, but MR16 LED's do, loudly. I'd love to save the planet and use less electricity, but these bulbs are not making it easy. Any thoughts on what's going on?
I was waching track me if u can...? I was waching track me if u can on the discovery channel and it had a hat the man made to hide your face from infrared cameras and it made a light cover your face from it and I didn't get how to make it he used Led lights or something so can some one please tell me how to make one with what
I want to replace MR16 halogen bulbs with LED bulbs. What wattage do I want? I am using 20W MR16 bulbs in a track light with 4 bulbs. It looks like a ONE watt LED is supposed to put out the equivalent of a 25W halogen bulb, so I guess that would be the proper replacement. Would it be okay (or wise or stupid) to use a 3W LED, which is supposed to put out the equivalent of a 50W halogen bulb? Thanks for your help. And if you have any thoughts on brand names vs. eBay deals, please offer comment. I see prices for seemingly similar products ranging from about five bucks a bulb to thirty bucks.
How to make cable on a led stip longer? I want to buy some led strips to put on my snowmobile. however the cable only reaches 38cm/15 inches so I cant put them on the running boards and hood. any way to lenghen the cable? the snowmobile is a Polaris Indy 500 with a long track Heres a link to the ebay listing for the lights: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2x-30-cm-under-car-SMD-LED-Light-Strips-Red-US-SELLER_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem27ae7f4c94QQitemZ170431302804QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories And heres the like for the battery:http://cgi.ebay.com/12-VOLT-5-AMP-HOUR-LEAD-ACID-RECHARGEABLE-BATTERY_W0QQitemZ300393859063QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item45f0de87f7
Does anyone remember these shoes from the early 2000s? When I was a kid, I had these "high-tech" shoes. They lit up and had LED lights on the tongue, which had different settings: it could measure your speed of running and make sounds (they were promptly banned at my school), or you could set them up to keep track of people playing "tag". If anyone can remember these shoes, you have my infinite thanks!
How many white LEDs in series on 120v AC? OK folks, I don't think my actual question is quite as straight forward as it seems here, but maybe someone here can help anyway. I bought a GU10 48 LED bulb (think track lighting) made to run directly off ~120v AC. After a few months of use (around 100 total usage hours), it failed due to an LED burning out. So, being the inquisitive person that I am, I had to open it up to see how it ticked. Basically, the simple circuit driving the LEDs contains a couple capacitors, a few resistors, and a full-wave bridge rectifier: x | C1, C2, R2 (all in parallel) | ----| D --- D |ssss| (-)o ---------- R3 --o (+) |ssss| D --- D ----| | R1 | x The 120v line voltage is applied at the "x" and the circuit output is the "o" (the ssss is a space....it's difficult to draw a circuit here). For whatever it's worth, R1: Resistor bands are too difficult to read (and I don't have a multimeter handy), but I think it was around 500 ohm R2: Surface-mounted resistor; 150 stamped on it (assuming 150 ohm) R3: Surface-mounted resistor; 150 stamped on it (assuming 150 ohm) C1: 250v 474J capacitor (unsure of capacitance) C2: 250v 684J capacitor (unsure of capacitance) D: M7 diodes (rectifier bridge) When I measured the RMS voltage at the circuit output, it was 110v (vs. 120v input). The 48 LEDs are wired in two series of 24 LEDs each (only one string was non-functional). Doing the math tells me that the LEDs are being driven at just over 4.5 volts, which seems exceedingly high (assuming a forward voltage of ~3.5v for each one normally). So, this brings me to my question....I wondered how many more LEDs I could string in a single series off this circuit configuration without going past 3.5v. Again, doing the math would lead me to believe that I could add maybe 10 more LEDs to the series and be OK. But, in experimenting with it, I was able to add a bunch more than that without any discernible decrease in light output. I think I stopped trying at around 25 extra LEDs in series with the original 24. What gives? I realize LEDs are current driven devices, but they would still need a certain forward voltage to operate, right?
Can't get my gages in my car back on track? I recently put in new LED lights in my car, everything with the lights worked out fine. But when I went to put my car back together the gages don't line up back to where they should be, everything is off track it seems. Did I miss something along the way maybe? How did you figure out how to match your gages up to where they should be? Oh yes, a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon It's my boyfriends car, he's running around frustrated cause he can't figure it out, I'm the calm girlfriend who doesn't mind trying to ask for help :) I'm trying my best with the info I can, sorry.
What job or career could I qualify for? Greetings, I'm looking for some advice or opinions on this matter. Perhaps I'm thinking too much or overreacting, but I have high expectations for myself as well as others around me, and I want to succeed more than anything. I have passions and sites on certain things, but I'm not quite sure where my specialties lie, or what I could qualify for the most... Here are my qualifications: B.A. in History (4 yr degree from UT) - ok strike one, but I believe this degree offers quite some mobility. 3 years experience working in museum settings - 2 1/2 years in a children's museum, and half a year (currently) being an intern at a history museum. - It should be noted my interest in these jobs were not related to children education, but more to museum sciences I have skills developed mainly through computer and online operations. This include developing my current workplaces museum website, updating its social media/blogging sites, managing its sales when buying and selling historical rarities, and using various web stores for our main inventory of merchandise. Also, while at my current museum (history), I have implemented a few exhibits on various topics, covering individuals, groups of people, and events and artifacts associated to this history (all this work includes doing the research, the writing, and the designing). I have more experience in this museum setting, but more knowledge and expertise in online operations. I've come to a crossroads. There are a lot of options on my plate, and things I would prefer to do, but don't know how to accomplish some goals. Namely; -I am passionate about green technology and its benefits. I retrofitted my current museums lightning with brand new LED lights and tracks, helping to save an estimated $5,000 dollars a year by removing all incandescent bulbs. This was an awesome project that I took on from the beginning; I purchased the lights (not on my dime, though), installed the new lighting, ran the numbers of investment, and re-designed the museum for better preservation. I loved doing this and the benefits of overall green technology (although I have no education or work experience in this subject of green - tech) - I could go on to get a master's, but understand that I might not need it if I continue getting work experience in museums (really the only thing I would want to do associated with my degree in History), building upon what I've completed so far. Law school is another path a lot of History majors take, but I can't see myself enjoying this profession despite its lucrative financial opportunities. - An MBA or some sort of business related degree or specialization would be really appetizing for me. I would love to manage or run a business associated with my passions (History, green tech, museums) but have NO idea as to how to take an access to this option. Anyway, I know I've left a lot of words on here, but I don't have a lot of professional advice coming in from anyone I talk to about this. Any opinions or advice you guys give I would absorb very well. Thanks for your time. Also - I am 22 years old... Don't know if that matters
Where can I buy a large fluorescent or LED ring light for fashion photography? I am desperately trying to track down a supplier, retailer, in fact anyone who sells a large fluorescent ring light that I can use for fashion photography. I used one recently at a studio and it blew my socks off! TO clarify I'm NOT looking for a ring FLASH but a fluorescent or even LED ring light. After days of searching I found one business in America that sells something very similar to what I used at this studio but their website says they don't have any and don't answer any e-mails I've sent them!! But for the purpose of you knowing what I need take a look at this link: http://www.stellarlightingsystems.com/products/Photo%7B47%7D-Video-portrait-light-with-standard-mount%7B47%7Dc%252dstand.html As you will see its a big ring light that DOESN'T attatch to the camera but is freestanding. I can't believe that this guy in America is the only person in the world that has/doesn't have them so if anyone can point me in the right direction I would be very happy indeed. Thanks Need to add these details!!! 1. To those that have said "isn't the easiest thing to do is ask the studio where you used this light" I would have thought that you would have given me the credit to have already tried this angle! I did. and they didn't know where it came from and the unit didn't have any markings/brand on it either! To those that have suggested using something else I say this. I do use other options. I have flash options. In fact I have the very best ring flash options in my broncolor Ring flash however I want THIS PARTICULAR light because it gave a great look to my shots. PLEASE STOP suggesting other things. All I'm interested in is if anyone knows where I can find this particular light from. That's it. Sorry to sound blunt but I think it might help future responses.. Cheers Cheers

I need a little help with some LED wiring? I am looking into making a home-made 3 point cap for freetrack head tracking and could use a little help with the wiring. id be lying if I said I was an electrician. I am hoping to hook up 3 LED lights to a USB cable and would like to know if this is possible and what resistor I may need. the LED I was looking at was this one http://alan-parekh.vstore.ca/product_info.php/pName/red-led-5mm-8000mcd/cName/leds-individual-leds if there are any problems with this I would love to hear some alternatives.

Song lyrics: "Led by anger"? I heard a song recently (07/20) on the local radio station, 94.5, and have heard a song for the second time that I really liked but have ABSOLUTELY not been able to find the name of the song or band that performs it. It's likely the title of the track is "Led by Anger" however that brings up no results. Following are some of the lyrics I wrote down to which results had no avail: As you hear the crowd calling out my name I will lift you up as I take you down down down All I wanted was a fair fight To beat you in the lime light 'Cuz I'm led by anger I have checked the station playlist and the song is omitted from the list at the time it was played. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Heard a "pop" and now my lights dont work...? I have a track lighting system, where I can add or remove lights easily. I added a new light, turned my lights on and I heard a "pop". I went to my circuit break and none of the circuits were tripped. They were all on the ON position. I reset the circuit that the lights are on anyways. Still, none of my lights work. I have dimmer switches installed that control the lights and the little LED on the switches is on. So I know the circuit is still getting power. Is it possible that I ruined my track lighting and will have to buy all new fixtures? Or did I just blow out all of the bulbs? Is it even possible to ruin the fixtures? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
How can I make flourescent light bulbs pulse to sound? I have two 4' flourescent light fixtures (T 12, 34 watt). I want to somehow connect them to a sound source (CD player, radio, etc) in such a way that they will dim or pulse to the sound. I know this can be done with LED bulbs, but I need to do it to these flourescent lights. It's for an art installation and the audio track will be just people speaking (if that helps any). Thanks to all!

How do you wire up halo headlights for 02' f250? Has anyone been able to track down a wiring diagram of the Halo Led Projector headlights for an 02' F250? The diagram that came with the lights is a joke.
Does Lumens equal brightness? A 60 Watt incandecent light bulb has approx. 750 lumens (according to the box) and a 65 Watt incandecent floodlight is approx 665 (plus) lumens. I was shopping for a LED replacement for the floodlight and I read where manufacturers state that their bulb was equivalent to a 65 Watt incandecent flood, but depeding on the manufacturer, they were only 70, 115, 190, 240, ect. lumens. How can all these be equivalent to the "brightness" of a 65 Watt incandecent flood? Does the "Par" have anything to do with this? (what is it?) I'm basically looking to replace 5 incandecent 65 Watt flood lights (can track lighting) with something of equivalent brightness that is dimmable and more energy efficient.
Best Hunting Flashlight? What flashlight would be really good for hunting and tracking. Im not looking for a complete tracking light, just a regular light, preferably a LED with a pretty high battery life.
Ramadan - If you are standing on a railroad track in front of a tunnel? and see a light in the tunnel. Do you go into the tunnel FEELING it is safe. No, you get off the track KNOWING that is the right thing to do. so If you are at a crossroad in life and unable to choose a road to take, do u act upon what you FEEL or what you KNOW? You FEEL it sounds like a good thing but KNOW differently. We are led so much by our feelings. But who is doing the leading, that is what we should KNOW, are we led by our own desires or the desires of Allah. Salam Alaikum @David Todd - Dont preach to me please, one reason I left Christianity was the hyprocrity that I saw in so many Christians. Not one Christian in here ever took the time to contact me and wished me blessings when I was Christian, but you have no idea of the Muslim friends I have since I converted and they are truly wonderful people. I was so sick of money hungry preachers & the church focusing on youth baseball and parties. I know the Bible & funny how none practices it in its entirety. What does Paul say about the woman covering her head when she prays, is that being done in the church No. And a woman would probably be ran out of church if she did cover her head & fell to her knees in prayer. And dont tell me its her hair that is a cover, look it up in the Greek. And dont tell me it was for the time of Paul, if we take it out of context, then why not take the whole Bible out & read into it what we want. So again, dont preach, I know the Bible but its the church that bothers me.
Microsoft mouse 4000 won't work? I just bought this mouse a couple weeks ago and it's been working fine the software downloaded from the usb thing and the mouse responded. However, now, when I turn the mmouse on the blue tracking light on the bottom works but the little green led on the top turns off eventually. I think this light just tells me the battery strength but maybe it tells you connection too. The mouse wont do anything on screen and my computer wont recognize when i plug the usb in.
Does a webcam light always mean it's being used? Okay, so my computer has been on for a few hours and where I live it's 10:54pm now. I was watching a movie on my computer and decided to do work. While I was researching I glanced over to my webcam on my desk to the right of me and noticed the LED light on the front was on, but I have no idea how long it's been on. This only happened about 3 minutes ago. I'm really nervous, I'm only 15. I think I've seen the light on before, but I'm not sure. Can they hear through the microphone too? I quickly turned on my webcam software because (my camera, anyway) it can only be used with one window of software at a time. The light shut off when the program was starting up and came back on when I could see myself in it. When I quit the software the light stayed off- and it still is. Then I turned it to the wall behind my screen where nothing is visible. Do I have anything to worry about? Is there any way to track resent connections or this person if that's what's happening? I know I sound paranoid from all these questions and what not, I'm just worried they might have seen me when I did something stupid. Like.. yelling and laughing loudly when I play CoD or something.
Meade 10" Model 2120/LX6? The above named telelscope that our school has acquired (used) does not track when plugged into a standard indoor AC outlet. The LED lights up and you can hear some noise but it does move over time. What are the possible reasons for this?
Help!!! Someone is watching me through my webcam!!? My computer was playing The Sims 3. And I left for like an hour just to take a walk with my friend. I got home, logged of the sims. And saw my webcam led light was on! Its still on too! I know the led light shows when the webcam is on. Its not turning off! how to i track where my video is going? Looking for the best UV LED Crime Scene Flashlight under $100.00? Main use would be for body fluid detection in scanning a crime scene. I also might go personal and track a deer. It would be nice if it could work in low light and not only in totally blacked out conditions.
How should I decorate my room? I recently moved and I want to re-decorate. I am a fan of Black, white and red but I also like some pink, giving the overall girly effect. I am a vintage freak and constantly tracking down the latest piece or accessory. I dig concert lighting and twinkly things, but do not take to bright, neon-y christmas like LED lights. I like weird shapes, but don't want to overdue it, and I am in love with the whole 'Wallpaper on one wall idea' I love light, delicate curtains but I have cats. (I don't want them tearing it) I enjoy basic color rugs with fur (FAKE!!!!) Is there anyone out there who knows of a place that sells not very fancy chandeliers that are good for girl's rooms?? MIX n MATCH!!!!!!!!
