Who thinks LED and Solar lights give quality lighting? I've been installing landscape lighting for almost 20 years and can't uderstand why people see value in LED & Solar lights. It's like the electric car - great in theory but proformance leaves alot to be desired. Fireflies in a jar, Fireflies in a jar.
Good sources for DIY solar LED landscape lighting? I'd like to wire LED lighting to put under a lip at the top of my new retaining wall. A lot of the actual landscape light fixtures I've found are big/fancy/expensive. I'd like to wire something that will be solar powered and have the effect of strip lights--either by buying inexpensive waterproof LED strips and connecting them to solar power, or by going one step deeper and wiring individual LEDs to suit along the edge. I've found dealextreme.com for some parts, but does anyone know of a good resource for instructions on assembling this type of thing?
Convert my solar charged LED lights to AC? I have a dozen very nice solar lawn lights that I'd like to convert to AC power. The conditions, both solar exposure and temperature here in Wisconsin mean that these things run out of juice before the morning. Sure seems like it shouldn't be rocket science to convert to AC power.
Portable solar chargers for laptop and LED lighting..Anyone have experience? Can you just get the panel and then recharge multiple batteries? I am needing a system that can provide enough power to juice my laptop for 2 hours of working life per day as well as a set of LED lights that I can use to provide lighting for a tent for 4 or 5 hours. I would also like a backup battery pack that i can use on days where it is not sunny. Does anyone have any experience with this technology? I am looking at http://www.siliconsolar.com/portable-solar-power-systems.html or here http://www.wholesalesolar.com/solar-panels.html or here http://www.siliconsolar.com/portable-solar-power-system-p-10.html Thanks
Why are my LED solar landscape lights glowing blue instead of white? I just installed solar coach lights for my pathway on Sunday. They are "supposed" to be a "bright white", according to the package. They are glowing mosquito zapper blue. They glowed this color for the last 2 nights. Is it b/c they need more days to charge? They came from Walmart. Please advise!
I'm making a solar LED light, can you tell me if this will work? Alright, my buddy is going off to college, and I'd like to make something for him. Here's my idea: I'm hollow out a cheap harmonica, put a solar cell and photoresistor on top, and place a 10 LED's in the holes that will glow when the lights are turned off. Here's how I plan to set this up: I'm going to take 3 of these: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062564 solar cells (totaling 1.5V together) and hardwire them to a 1.2V rechargable AAA battery. The I will have another wire going into a photoresistor cell in front of the LED's and back into the the 1.5V battery. If you are confused: there are two loops going into the battery - one with the solar cell, one with the LED's. So, I have a couple questions: 1) - will the AAA battery charge with the solar cells - his dorm will be in Seattle, so direct sunlight is doubtful. 2)-If the solar cell can charge the battery, will it be enough to light 10 LED's for a few hours? 3)-If the solar cell can charge the battery, will the photoresistor cell and the LED's drain the battery before there is enough charge to hold the lights in the dark? Will the LED's drain it to the point that it doesn't work if I were to take out the photoresistor cell?
Which is better? Solar powered LED landscaping lights or the low voltage lights? The reason I ask this question is because I currently have the low voltage lights that were installed when I purchased the house. At first they worked great but now I can't get any of them to light up. I replaced the bulbs and have even replaced one of the transformers thinking that could be the problem with no luck. Thinking about pulling them all up and replace with the solar powered ones. They line up my driveway and around my shrubs.
Led Home Lighting,a Friend who needs to finish his project.Pls advice.? I have a classmate who is graduated from the civil engineering specialty, recently received a project, in need of repair on some families' house in their village, which involves a problem that he should decide the led home lighting's choose and buy. We have find the suppliers before, but don't feel very satisfied, then we also search on the net . How long will this 1.5v AA battery power 1 LED on a solar walkway light? Due to connection difficulties...i have decided to use a regular AA 1.5v battery to power this solar walkway light. I have disconnected the electrical wire so the "solaring" will not be in use. With this nonrechargeable battery taking the old recharagable battery's place, I was wondering how many hours can this 1.5v battery power 1 led.
What are the best solar powered LED lights for a 6 x 8 greenhouse? As the question asks, does anyone have a good idea as to what solar powered LED lights could work for a 6 x 8 greenhouse to act as a grow light, without breaking my bank account in the process? I have been looking at some of the many solar pathway lights as an idea for a grow light, because I'd think any LED light would help grow my vegetables. I've also looked at actual LED plant "grow" lights that illuminate with color, but I'm not sure which one is best, nor do I want to spend over $200... preferably, having a 6 x 8 greenhouse, I'm hoping to stay under $100, but we'll see what my offerings are. I've looked at LED rope lights as well. My plants are in basically direct sunlight, for part of the day at least. Being in a tight suburban environment with lots of tall structures it limits it, so these lights are just to make up for any loss of light, and to be able to be operated at night as well. If solar self-powered lights are just not too powerful, what would you recommend for basic LED lights and a decent, basic, solar panel to go along with them? Preferably, self-powered lights would be ideal, but I'm grateful for any advice. Links to some actual products would help, or at least specific names, as there are so many varied designs and prices out there. Thanks, Jesse
Hardwire my solar charged LED path lights? I have 12 nice solar charged LED path lights that I would like to hardwire. Someone posed a similar question on the former Google Answers but I still need a few things cleared up. http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview/id/771491.html I will wire all the lights in parallel. My solar lights only use 1 rechargeable AA battery each, so I am dealing with prob around 1.2V (I think the rechargeable batteries are 1.2V not 1.5V, but I will verify the voltage with a multimeter). I will find a DC adapter that is compatible. My questions are: 1. How many amps should the DC power supply be? 2. Is there a voltage drop to each light when wired in parallel? 3. Will the solar light furthest away from the power supply (at least 50ft) get enough/any power? 4. Does anyone foresee any longterm issues with this setup? Thanks!
solar power for LED outside lights? My friend owns a store here in Minneapolis called The Green Goober. Her sign does not light up at night very well, and she needs more light... Shes looking to put up LED lights and solar panels strictly to power them. Does anyone know where to find such a think/how much wattage LED lights need? Any help is greatly appreciated
Change a solar fairy lights to a plug? I brought some fairy lights to go in my house, but didnt realise it was a solar, energy saving LED light to plug in the garden. How do i go about changing it to a plug to use inside?
Do LED lights hurt some plants? I have two solar powered LED flood lights used to underlight a topiary (spiral shaped) Juniper. Over the winter, the needles seemed to have died where the lighting would have been cast overnight. It is difficult to tsay for sure. There may have been other factors, but the pattern seems to also point to the lights. Does anyone know it lighting up your trees (or even just Junipers) hurts them?
Need help starting a solar lighting system? I was thinking about setting up a simple solar powered lighting system. I was planning on using a small 12 V LED light and hooking it up to a battery, to be charged by a solar panel. My question, at this point, is about which battery type to use. I know I can get various golf cart batteries, in either 6, 8, or 12 V. Or I can go with "marine" batteries, in 12 V. I know that more batteries means more capacity. However, what I'm not sure about is which type of batteries to use. Can anyone offer any type of help, please.
What would be the best solar powered lights to use? My parents recently moved into a new house and would like to get some lights to line their walkway. They need to be bright enough for my mother to see the path, but they don't like the cool toned lights. Does anyone know of a good brand/model of solar light that might fit the bill? I've been researching this and am having a hard time finding something other than the white LED lights which I know would be the cool toned they don't like. Thanks in advance for all your help!
Can you convert low voltage lighting transformer to solar? I have a 600W Malibu transformer that I'd like to swap out to solar power. I've already replaced all my bulbs with LED and my power draw for my entire system is very low (.5w per bulb x10). Can I pick up a solar panel, 12v battery and a converter/conditioner to power the lights?
How can I power LED light strings with a solar panel? I'm interested in purchasing some LED icicle-style light strings to go around the house and was thinking it would be nice if they were solar powered to cut back even more on energy consumption. I've seen icicle-style LED strings with a regular a/c plug and single-strand LED lights attached to a small solar panel on a garden stake but no solar powered icicle-style LED strings. Is there an easy way to get both the solar power feature AND the style LEDs I want? The icicle-style LED strings draw about 5w each and I'm not sure how many I'll need, probably 4-6 strings. Thanks!
What are the best solar powered security lights? I'd like to install solar powered security lights (LED of course) with motion detectors on my property especially one near the driveway that would come on long enough for us to get in the house after we park the car. Please give me some recommendations on what is available on the market and actually have been used by people out there.
